Hilary Swank, 52, Is Expecting a Christmas Baby

Hilary Swank says her third baby is due around Christmas, and her twins are already asking whether the holiday has arrived. The actress, 52, shared the timing as she and husband Philip Schneider prepare to become a family of five.

Aya and Ohm, now 3, have been telling babies they encounter that their mother is expecting, Swank told PEOPLE in an October 15 interview. At restaurants, the children approach other families with an announcement of their own.

The public reveal was a family production, too. On October 14, Swank posted a video of herself, Schneider and the twins dancing in the dark with glow sticks outlining their bodies, ABC News reported. A smaller figure on her belly supplied the surprise.

Her caption presented the pregnancy as her next project and pointed to December. The twins were born in April 2023, giving the couple a few years of experience before welcoming another newborn.

What later motherhood has meant to her

Swank described feeling grateful and excited after taking the pregnancy test, according to PEOPLE’s interview. The conversation took place at an EWG event in New York, where she discussed her work with baby-products company HealthyBaby.

She has also pushed back on the idea that becoming a mother later was simply a career scheduling decision. In an earlier Women’s Health interview cited by Us Weekly, she said she would have had children sooner if circumstances had allowed it. Different parts of her life came together when they did.

What she values now is how she approaches parenting. “I’m much more patient. I’m much more understanding,” she said in that interview, describing a greater interest in how her children’s minds work.

The pregnancy has brought another round of comments about her age. Us Weekly reported that Swank addressed criticism during a preview of an upcoming Drew Barrymore Show appearance, including the different treatment older mothers and fathers receive.

The episode is scheduled to air October 20; the remarks reported so far come from a preview.

At home, their calendar is simpler than the adults’. Swank told PEOPLE that the question Aya and Ohm keep bringing back is: “Is it Christmas time yet?”
